DAVIE, Fla. — Matt Moore spent his first full practice of training camp as the Miami Dolphins‘ starting quarterback Friday.
It could be the first of many in that role depending on what the team decides to do with injured starter Ryan Tannehill, who suffered a left knee injury Thursday. But Moore said he is confident and comfortable in taking over as the starter.
Now that the Dallas Cowboys have taken care of business in the Hall of Fame game, they’re going to hang around for a couple of days.
Why not? The boss is about to get a gold jacket.
With no stars and few starters on the field Thursday night, the Cowboys edged the Arizona Cardinals 20-18. The idea, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said, was to get the young players lots of action, win the game, then get ready for owner Jerry Jones‘ induction on Saturday night.
So the team will be off Friday, practice in Cleveland on Saturday, then tour the hall before the evening ceremonies.
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said that Conor McGregor doesn’t stand much of a chance against Floyd Mayweather when the two combatants square off Aug. 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“McGregor is going to get killed boxing,” Tyson said on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast. “Boxing? I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?
SOUTHPORT, England — The flight of Jordan Spieth‘s 3-wood from the light rough looked about as ugly as the weather at The Open. The outcome was about as bright as his chances of getting his name on another major championship trophy.
Spieth seized control Friday at Royal Birkdale with a shot that he hit a little off the neck of his 3-wood. It was low and hot, and ran fast along the rain-soaked turf until it skirted by a pot bunker and rambled onto the green to set up an 18-foot eagle putt on the par-5 15th.
“I mishit the shot, which is probably why it looked so gross,” Spieth said. “I hit it low off the heel, which is easy to do when you’re trying to carve a cut. And it just … one hop, scooted around the group of bunkers there, and then it was obviously fortunate to get all the way to the green.”
FRISCO, Texas — Even though Tony Romo played in just one series last season for the Dallas Cowboys because of a back injury suffered in a preseason game, he developed a strong relationship with Ezekiel Elliott. Based on that, he thinks the young running back should be given some room to figure things out.
“With Zeke, he’s a friend and I know he’s a good kid and he’s just trying to find his way,” Romo said on the “Ben and Skin Show,” on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Thursday. “He’s going to be in a position that’s always going to be in the spotlight. People are going to take photos. They’re going to talk about it.”
WAYNE, N.J. — The New York Giants– Dallas Cowboys?rivalry is heating up before training camps even open.
Giants safety Landon Collins responded confidently Friday at his Citi ProCamp about his team’s chances after Dak Prescott said last week that the Cowboys would win the division.
“I commented right underneath his picture. I said, ‘I highly doubt that.’ They do not control the [NFC] East. It’s over with. We’re going to have a run for it. I mean, they’re not going to win, I can tell you that much. We’re definitely going to take over.”
The last award of the night for Best Team went to the Golden State Warriors. But there were so many others who left the show tonight holding a trophy.

Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will earn perhaps nine-figure paydays while fight fans will be charged $100 to watch on TV in high def and can’t get into the arena for anything less than a $500 face-value ticket —if they’re lucky.
But in New York, where a “Hamilton” seat can cost you a rent check, there’s still a deal to be found — even in the fight game.
The fight angling to become the richest in sports history is offering fans a bargain-basement price for this weeklong smack-talking circus: Free. It’s the cleanest four-letter word uttered by the Irish UFC star McGregor and the undefeated boxer Mayweather during a foul-mouthed promotional tour that stopped Thursday at the Barclays Center.
Fans lined outside the home of the Brooklyn Nets hours before they were allowed inside the arena. They flocked in TMT gear or draped themselves Irish flags as they waited for the pair to start trading insults weeks before they exchange blows.
fireworks shell that landed in the upper deck of Nissan Stadium and detonated Tuesday night has caused some damage to the Tennessee Titans‘ home, according to reports.
According to multiple media reports, damage to the stadium was being assessed Wednesday after a shell fired by Pyro Shows near the end of the city’s Fourth of July celebration detonated on the west side of Nissan Stadium, damaging concrete and seats.
Nobody was allowed in the “fallout zone” where it occurred, and there were no injuries.
“Basically, a shell misfired and caused some damage,” Metro Sports Authority director Monica Fawknotson told reporters. “… Thankfully, nobody was hurt.”
